A soft contact lens is sometimes used as a sort of "bandage" on a damaged, vulnerable cornea to temporarily protect the cornea and promote healing.

Bandage lenses are used sometimes for treating corneal abrasions or recurrent erosions; they are also commonly used after surgeries such as LASIK and PRK.
